As a naturalist, author, and teacher, Alan Reid was strongly associated with the development of environmental education in Australia. After working in a number of schools in Victoria in the 1950s, Reid was a nature studies officer of the Victorian Education Department, and commenced working for the Australian Conservation Foundation in 1970.
